Prominent Midlands attorney and former South Carolina state lawmaker, Dick Harpootlian, is venturing into the literary world with the announcement of his first true-crime novel. The book, titled “Gig Me A Grave,” explores Harpootlian’s pursuit of one of South Carolina’s most infamous serial killers, Donald “Pee-wee” Gaskins.
The novel, which was announced on Tuesday, April 29, delves into Harpootlian’s personal experiences investigating Gaskins, a convicted serial killer responsible for numerous murders in the 1970s and 1980s. Harpootlian, best known for his role as a defense attorney in high-profile cases, including the trial of convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh, brings a unique perspective to the true-crime genre.
A spokesperson for Harpootlian noted that “Gig Me A Grave” offers an inside look at the complexities of South Carolina’s criminal history and the chilling case of Gaskins, who was executed in 1991. Harpootlian’s narrative promises to provide readers with an in-depth examination of the investigation and legal challenges associated with bringing Gaskins to justice.
This debut novel marks a new chapter for Harpootlian, who has long been a fixture in South Carolina’s legal and political circles.
