The Monroe Community Library will host a special author event with renowned Maine mystery writer Gerry Boyle on Thursday, May 8, at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Boyle, a prolific author of 17 crime novels, is best known for his Jack McMorrow series, which has earned critical acclaim. His latest addition to the series, Hard Line, continues the thrilling adventures of McMorrow, a reporter who often finds himself in perilous situations as he digs into the heart of Maine’s rural communities. Earlier works in the McMorrow series, including Random Act and Straw Man, have won the prestigious Maine Literary Award for Crime Fiction.
Set predominantly in Maine’s rural landscapes, Boyle’s novels capture the state’s rugged charm and unique challenges. The McMorrow series is centered in the western part of Waldo County, where the protagonist, a dedicated reporter, uncovers stories that often lead to unexpected danger. Boyle, who resides in central Maine, brings an intimate knowledge of the region to his writing, drawing on his experiences as a longtime journalist and editor. In addition to the McMorrow books, Boyle has authored the Brandon Blake mystery series, which features a rookie police officer in Portland, Maine.
Throughout his career, Boyle has worked as a newspaper reporter, columnist, and editor of Colby Magazine at Colby College, where he earned his degree. His novels have been translated into several languages, cementing his reputation as a widely-read crime fiction author.
The event at the Monroe Community Library offers attendees a chance to hear from Boyle himself about his creative process and how he conducts research for his novels, which often feature familiar locales. “Join us for an engaging discussion with Gerry Boyle and learn about the sources of inspiration behind his gripping crime stories,” the library announced in a statement.
The author event will be held at the Monroe Community Library, located at 8 Swan Lake Ave., Monroe, ME 04951. Free parking is available on-site and in the adjacent lot.
