Jenni Thomas, OBE, a seasoned bereavement counselor from Marlow, recently celebrated the release of her latest book, After a Child Dies, Parents’ Grief, which was officially launched on April 24.
The book is designed to provide emotional support and practical guidance for grieving families and professionals who assist them, including counselors, paramedics, and healthcare workers. It draws from Thomas’s 60 years of experience in supporting parents through their most challenging loss.
“I’m thrilled to have been able to write this book as I retire at 82,” said Thomas, reflecting on her long and distinguished career in bereavement counseling.
Published by the Angus Lawson Memorial Trust, the book launch event was attended by around 100 guests, many of whom were parents and families Thomas has personally helped over the years. The gathering also included several leading figures in the field of bereavement care, including senior midwife and advisor Donna Ockenden, who is known for her recent appearance on Desert Island Discs, and various charity founders and professionals dedicated to supporting grieving families.
The launch was hosted by Nick Lawson, CEO of Ocean Wall and founder of the Angus Lawson Memorial Trust, based in High Wycombe. The trust, which has been instrumental in funding bereavement care initiatives, played a key role in the publication of Thomas’s book.
Having lived in Marlow for nearly two decades, Jenni Thomas has become a well-respected figure in the community, known for her work in supporting grieving families through the heart-wrenching process of child loss. Her new book is expected to offer valuable comfort and insight for those navigating such difficult times, making it an essential resource for both families and professionals.
As Thomas enters her retirement, her legacy continues to impact the lives of many who have found solace in her words and support.
