Raegan Revord, known for her role as Missy Cooper on the popular television series Young Sheldon, is set to make her literary debut this fall with a young adult novel titled Rules for Fake Girlfriends. The book will be published by Macmillan’s Wednesday Books imprint and is scheduled for release on September 2, 2025.
Rules for Fake Girlfriends follows the story of Avery Blackwell, a young woman whose plans to attend Columbia University are derailed after the sudden passing of her mother. In an effort to navigate her grief and new circumstances, Avery enters into a rom-com style agreement with local girl Charlie: Avery will pretend to be Charlie’s girlfriend to provoke jealousy in Charlie’s ex, while Charlie assists Avery in solving a scavenger hunt left by her late mother. As their arrangement unfolds, pretense gives way to genuine feelings, complicated by hidden secrets and difficult choices about love and loyalty.
At just 17 years old, Revord has been acting since childhood, with early appearances including two episodes of Modern Family in 2014. She rose to prominence as Missy Cooper on Young Sheldon, a role she has held since 2017. In 2022, Revord launched the online book club @readwithraegan, which has attracted a following of 175,000 fans.
Reflecting on her transition to writing, Revord expressed enthusiasm about working with Wednesday Books, a publisher she has admired since beginning her YA reading journey. “I’ve been a fan of Wednesday Books since I began reading YA, so to have my debut novel be published under Eileen’s expertise and guidance has been a dream come true,” she said in a recent interview.
In addition to her debut novel, Revord recently joined the 2024–2025 Hello Sunshine Collective, an initiative from Reese Witherspoon’s media company that supports female storytellers.
As the publication date approaches, Revord looks forward to sharing the characters and story she has crafted. “I am so excited for readers to go on this journey with Avery and her friends,” she shared.
Rules for Fake Girlfriends will be available in bookstores and online starting September 2, 2025.
