Mystery novelist Wendy Gee, author of the recently released thriller Fleet Landing, will host a book launch and signing event at Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 27.
Gee, a Lewes resident and former U.S. Navy officer, drew inspiration for her debut novel from her time volunteering with the Charleston Fire Department. The book follows ATF Special Agent Cooper “Coop” Bellamy, who is grappling with personal and professional challenges as he investigates a series of suspicious fires plaguing Charleston, South Carolina.
In Fleet Landing, Bellamy’s strict commitment to protocol has fractured his relationship with his young daughter. When he is called to assist in the investigation of escalating nuisance fires, he sees an opportunity to rebuild his family life and bring a dangerous arsonist to justice. As the case intensifies, he partners with Sydney Quinn, a determined TV journalist seeking to exonerate a man wrongly convicted of arson.
Together, Coop and Quinn unravel a long-buried conspiracy while confronting threats from a shadowy figure known only as the Falcon. Their joint pursuit of the truth pits them against systemic corruption and personal demons, in a race to stop a deadly plot before it consumes everything they hold dear.
Following her naval service, Gee has remained active in her community, volunteering with organizations such as Friends of the Lewes Public Library and Sussex County Habitat for Humanity. She holds degrees from the University of Michigan, the University of Arizona, the Naval War College, and Old Dominion University.
The June 27 signing at Browseabout Books offers readers an opportunity to meet Gee, discuss her work, and purchase signed copies of Fleet Landing.
